The Csomád Guesthouse's name comes from the place where it is situated, at 750 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Csomád mountain in the beautiful surroundings of Baile-Tusnad.
Baile-Tusnad is one of the most beautiful spas of Transylvania. Orbán Balázs, in his work, 'The description of Székelyföld' calls it 'The pearl of Transylvania'. And not without reason, as its volcanic mountains within which just the Olt river managed to make its way, work their magic on anybody visiting this place.
We, as Guesthouse owners, work on turning your stay in a wonderful relaxation within the Csomad complex. We try to offer services which satisfy all your needs and will make you come back.
Our complex's houses are waiting for guests for over a decade now.
At first we've had only one building, but due to our experience gaining in the field of tourism we managed to open other two houses, which come to meet the different needs of our guests. (read about them in more detail under the Services - Prices menu).
If you wish to have a relaxing and peacefull holiday, the ideal place for you is the Csomad pension from Baile Tusnad.
We want to outline that you will not find in Baile Tusnad luxurous spa's. Regarding the accomodations, you will find only modest but clean guesthouses and the traditional sekler's hospitality.

Saint Anna Lake
The most famous natural beauty around Baile-Tusnad is the Saint Anna lake, the one and only lake of volcanic origins in Romania. Its creation dates back to the neogen era. It's possible that , during the eruptions there were two active volcanoes, a main volcano and a secondary one. It is believed that in the main volcano's crater is the todays lake and in the secondary's the Mohos swamp. The latter had been formed from the erosion caused by the Mohos-lake and the Veres stream as well as the alluvial soil from the downhills.
The distance between the lake's two furthest points is more than 900 m, whilest the shortest is smaller than 500 m. The measurments prooved that the amount of water and the deepness of the lake is constantly decreasing. On this latitude the average amount of precipitation is approximately 700 mm, to which the lake also gains from the snow and rain falls almost 1500 mm. Because the lake is really poor in mineral resources it is considered to be one of the most clear watered lakes on Earth. Because the hydrographical basin is quite low, the level of the water is also constantly decreasing.
The legend of the lake
It is believed that this area used to belong to two brothers. One of them had his castel on the Budos peak, the other's was where the today's lake is situated. The first brother had a beautiful carriage, which his brother was really envious about and he(the second brother) proposed a bet, as he would visit him with a better carriage than the one his brother had. He thought that the only way to win this bet would be to harness the eight most beautiful girls from the area pull his carriage. And so he did. He harnessed the girls but as they couldn't even move the carriage, in his anger he started beating them. One of the girls, called Anna cursed him. In that moment a storm started, thunder and lightining lit up the sky and an earthquake shook the ground. The evil brother with his castle got swallowed and in their place a lake had formed.
The tours of the Saint Anna Lake
Mohos Mud - Nádas bath - Tusnadul Nou train station
An arrow shows the tour's starting point in the tourist house's garden . You can start your tour by crossing the road, following the pat through the Mud, which takes you to the Western part of the swamp, than goes Eastwards following the triangular signs. After 1,5 km, leaving behind the path which divides the Mohos Mud, the two signs follow different directions. The yellow triangle goes to Vargyas-stream , whereas the red point follows the Mohos on 300 meters. The field ends at a smaller hill, on the edge of the forrest, point from where, following a steep hill you can get into the forrest. If you go off the path, on your right you'll have a field. At a distance of 150 m from the path, there is a 30-40 m deep cleft. This is the Veress stream's glem. Going further we head towards Tusnadul-Nou, Tusnad Sat and Lazaresti. On your way on the left, you'll find the Mohos, the Grass-Haram and the Big-Haram. Going downhill you get to a glade of about 600 meters which will soon turn into a forrest path. Cca. 500 m you can get to another glade. On this portion the signs are rare and painted on rocks. The road follows vertically, but after a while it starts to go downhill again. After a 1200 m slope, the footpath takes a short cut through the Big-Haram and goes for another 250 meters, where leaves the woods completely. Here, on a huge pine tree there is an arrow showing the direction to follow, on the left. The footpath follows the rare margin of the forrest, than after a kilometer meets the other foothpath which comes from the Round beech and Big Haram. On your right you can see the Small Haram. From this point on you have to follow a country path across the fields. After a 30 minute walk the lane turns right, to the environmentaly protected Nadas bath. There is a road of about 250 meters, shown by a sign, but even without it you can discover the stream bed which disappears in a reed bed. Here you'll see the blue signs again. There are quite a few spring waters, the Nadas mineral water being the most famous one out of all, which is reachable after 80 meters. Following the way through the swamp, you will get to two pools, made of wood. The Nadas bath is an excelent place for camping. From the pools the path turns to Tusnadul Mare and Lazaresti, which are within 2,5 kilometers.
At the end of your tour you'll get to the bank of Nadas stream and you'll meet the asphalt road on the Eastern part of Tusnadul Nou.
Szent Anna-lake rest-house - Carpati Hotel (Büdös-mountain)
The most favorite among tourists and the shortest as well is the path between the Saint Anna lake and Balvanyos bath. It is practicable all year around.
It starts at the rest-house with the path going to Cecele, being marked by a blue cross . Goes through the campsite, crosses the road and continues on the Southern side of Mohos for a 15 minutes walk and crosses the road again. From here the path goes through the beech wood up to the Kokojzás peak (1115 m), from where the two signs follow different directions. On the ridge, the wood rares and turns into a glade. From this point on, the path goes downhill and the direction is shown by yellow crosses through the beech wood. Approximately after a 20 minutes walk you'll reach the Saint Anna lake asphalt road, which takes you to the Saint Anna lake. Turning right on this road, after turning a corner and within 250 meters the signs will disappear again in the forrest. You'll see them again at the crossing of the road which takes you to the lake and the one which takes you to Balvanyos.
Szent Anna-lake rest house - Cecele
It is a tour of medium difficulty. Because of its length in winter it is recommanded just to well-ecquiped and well-trained tourists. It can be used by those who would like to go to the Bálványos- or Kászoni-basins. It is recommanded to take plenty of water with you, as on this route you wont have other drinking possibilities, unless the Buffogo, the only mineral spring on the tour.
The blue sign starts its way together with the yellow one in the rest-houses's garden. It goes through the campsite, crosses the asphalt road and enters the Mohos Mud, following the same direction up to the Kokojzas peak.
The path marked with the blue crosses carries on going on the left Eastwards. The Kokojzas has two, almost invisible peaks. the footpath within these two, goes downhill and meets the asphalt road. The marked road from this point onwards is the Saint Anna lake's motor road. After 1,1 kilometers/ 15 minutes you get to the board signaling that Harghita county beguns, where the Csomad mountain joins the Budos. You enter the beech wood again and continue your walk towards the Bolondos ridge (1082 m). Your way is going to meet another footpath, which comes from the Buffogó swamp, then slopes Eastwards again in the Round-beech's direction. The path goes up to the Géczi-bérc (1093 m), then goes down to the Közteto mountain-pass. The path follows the old woods and the glade. At the mountain-pass of Köz-teto (1087 m) and Gorgán (vagy Torös, 1135 m) you'll find the red cross sign, which comes up from the Balvanios castel and goes to Lazaresti. In the same place you'll meet the blue sign, which goes from Balvanios bath through the Nyerges-peak to the Rugat-peak. After climbing the Gorgan, the road turns Eastwards in a right angle, than turns to the Cecele mountain-pass. Reaching the Cecele-peak your tour ends.
